Action Research Plan
Well, let me just say this ended up being a little easier than I thought. Action Research is not a difficult process, it was just difficult getting started on the actual template plan itself. I hope that by conducting my research I am able, with assistance from my PLC group, able to serve the needs of a variety of learners. I hope to be able to identify a variety of strategies, from the teachers that are in the classes implementing them, and place them into a format that is easily readable and helpful to other teachers once my research is done. I know it will have its moments where it doesn't seem to be taking the direction I hoped, but that is the beauty of research. It can change, and so can we as educators for the sake of the kids we are trying to reach and teach. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Carrie,
ReplyDeleteI like your premise and wondering. Are you only using Special Education in your study? I'm thinking that branching out to other areas might be of help as well. Intervention is a great thing and helps so many kids. I like a lot of what you've done.
No it won't be just special education students, I am just using the special ed teachers that co-teach to help me gather data from the general ed classes they are in, and questionnaires from general ed teacher. Thank you for your feedback, it really appreciate your time.
DeleteCarrie- I may have missed it, but what population are you going to look at Elementary, MS or HS? I like that you are looking into interventions. I think your timeline is well planned. I think it is good that you are using a PLC to include a variety of teachers. Are they all SPED teachers or are any of the gen ed teachers? Just some things to think about.
ReplyDeleteThank you for pointing that out. I am going to address high school students, that is what level I teach. Also, I am using my PLC to gather data while they are in the general education setting on all struggling learners. Our Special Ed teachers co-teach a couple classes a day with core general education classes. We will identify the students based off of class rosters and readiness standards. I will use questionnaires from the general ed teachers on their strategies they use to help their struggling learners. So it is not limited to only special ed students, and is for all grade levels.
DeleteAlso, wanted to say thank you for your input.
DeleteThis looks like a great plan! I also had a question about your population and standards. Are you looking at all content areas?
ReplyDeleteI want to say thank you for your input as well, it helps to have people give feedback.
DeleteYes all content areas that we have co-teachers in general education classes. I am using them to help gather data, as well as getting questionnaires from general ed teachers.
ReplyDeleteHey Carrie, How do you guys use co-teaching? Is it both teachers teaching 1/2 and 1/2, or one just providing back up in the classroom. And how long has your district been involved in the co-teach classroom? Your plan looks great. Hopefully my wife and I will learn more strategies from your plan for her co-teach classrooms that she teaches. She is in 3 classrooms a day and the instruction is 1/2 and 1/2 from both teachers. They are also both certified teachers as well. Talk to you later.
ReplyDeleteMichael
Yes, they both teach. They collaborate together to make up the plans for the week, and the special education teacher attends the weekly Teacher Learning Time meetings. We just started using the co-teaching model last year. The teachers are both certified, but we do have some paraprofessionals that go into classes with some of our students but they do not co-teach. They mentor and assist students after instruction is presented. Hopefully I can provide you with some helpful info.
ReplyDeleteThat is how my wife's campus operates with co-teach. They started 3 years ago from scratch, but they are slowly ironing things out. Talk to you soon.
